Smt. Meera Ramanathan

Meera Ramanathan is the Project Resource teacher for visual and media art at Zamorano Fine Arts Academy with San Diego Unified School District and the 2025 San Diego Unified School District Elementary Teacher of the year.

She is the chair for the  Visual and Performing Art (VAPA) Advisory council for San Diego Unified School District and also the chair for the California Art Education Association’s (CAEA) San Diego area K-8 art show. She is the regional representative for the Pacific Region for the National Art Education Association where she has presented several workshops for art educators around the country. 

A strong advocate for visual and performing arts, Meera is passionate about  introducing her students to artists from different parts of the world while giving them the opportunity to create, present, respond and connect with different media and techniques while finding inspiration from their own life experiences. Her goal is always to see how she can make her lessons accessible to all her students while keeping them challenged, motivated, and engaged. 

In addition to SDUSD Elementary Teacher of the year, Meera is the recipient of several other awards including the Artistic Innovation award at the VAPA Spotlight awards with San Diego Unified School District, Outstanding Elementary Visual Art Educator award by the California Art Education Association and her art program was awarded the Exemplary Program status.

Meera is also a practicing artist - she creates paper collages that have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in San Diego. She combines traditional Indian hand embroidery with paper to create unique works. The Brihadeshwara Temple mural you see at Archana School of Dance’s studio was painted by Meera.

She has appeared in several television channels including NBC 739, ABC10 News, CBS8 and KUSI news. She has also been interviewed and featured in the San Diego Union Tribune that showcased her role as an art educator and artist.

Musical Ensemble

  • Smt. Keerthana Viswanathan is a Carnatic vocalist who has trained under Vidwans Sri M. T. Selvanarayana and Late Sri Koviladi Madhwa Prasad. She has been teaching Carnatic music in San Diego for the last 12 years.

    A recipient of the CCRT National Scholarship for excellence in Carnatic vocal music, Keerthana has performed in various concerts and featured in programs on All India Radio and Doordarshan. In addition to her classical performances, she has also lent her voice to private music albums, exploring a range of devotional and light classical compositions.

  • Kum. Ishaani Ramaswamy is a 9th Grader from San Diego. Her training began under the guidance of Kalaimamani Smt. Nirmala Rajasekar and is currently under the tutelage of Sangeetha Kalacharya Smt RS Jayalakshmi.

    Ishaani has participated and won several competitions in the US as well as in India. Her prizes include Hindu Margazhi 2023, Cleveland Aradhana festival 2024 & 2025, Jhankriti 2024 finalist and 2025 winner with the title “Vaadya prajna”, held by Art of Living in association with World forum for art and culture international competition, Dhvani Ohio 2024 & 2025. She is an Indian raga 2025 fellow and was on the 2023 Indian raga leaderboard. She has given solo performances in SoCal area, was blessed to be part of IFAASD youth festival 2022 & 2024. Outside of US she has performed at Udupi Mutt, Mysore Vasudevacharya residence, Mysore and Kateel Durga Parameshwari temple. As an accompanying artist she has supported dance performances.

    When she is not playing the veena, she likes coding and sketching hyper realistic portraits.

  • Nivik Sanjay Bharadwaj has been learning carnatic violin since the age of 6 and currently learns from Vid. Sri. Lakshminarayana Pisupati of Atlanta and Vid. Sri. HK Venkatram of Bangalore. He also learns carnatic vocal and is under the tutelage of Vid. Sri. Prashanth Krishnamoorthy of Atlanta and Vid. Sri. Ramakrishnan Murthy of Chennai. 

    Nivik has performed solo and has had the opportunity to share the stage and accompany renowned artists from USA and India. He is the winner of various regional and international competitions and has played for vocal and dance arengetrams and rangapravesams in and around USA. 

    Nivik is a sophomore at the University of California San Diego. He is an Eagle Scout and is serving a troop in San Diego as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

  • Vamsi is a rising freshman at the University of California, Irvine, pursuing Biomedical Engineering. He began his initial training under Vidwan Arangi Srinivasa Rao at the age of 6 in Hyderabad and continued under his tutelage for 11 years. He is currently doing his advanced training under the tutelage of Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. Thiruvarur Bakthavatsalam. He has won several competitions held by Sharada cultural trust and Kalasagaram, Hyderabad and the Telugu Association of North America (TANA). Vamsi completed his Mridangam Arangetram in 2024, accompanying Vidwan Sri Bharat Sundar (Vocal) and Kum. Gayatri Sivani (Violin) in Hyderabad. Vamsi has performed at various temples and other venues with esteemed artists such as Vidushi Smt. Savita Sreeram, TTD Asthana Harikatha Vidwan Smt. Jayanti Savitri and Smt. Roopa Raman from Bengaluru as well as local artists here in San Diego including the IFAASD festival. He has also performed in the prestigious Margazhi maha utsavam. In 2022, Vamsi completed the 4-year Mridangam certification course with distinction from Sampada, Silicon Andhra University, which is associated with Sri Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad. Aside from Mridangam, he enjoys playing Basketball.

  • Srivatsan started learning Mridangam from his father Srinivasan Govindarajan, currently learning from Vidwan Sri. Neyveli R.Narayanan. He has been accompanying for concerts like Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, Indian Fine Arts Academy San Diego, Yuva Kala Sangamam AZ and Youth festivals in Detroit and DC. During Margazhi season, he’s been accompanying at various prestigious venues like Vani Mahal, Karthik Fine Arts, Chennai Fine Arts, Brahma Gana Sabha, BVB, HCL-Gurukulam Series, Thiruvayyaru Thyagaraja Utsavam to name few. He also had an opportunity to accompany Kalaimamani Mudikondan Sri.S.N.Ramesh. In March 2025, he accompanied for a fundraising concert at Chinmaya Mission, Bakerfield for Los Angeles fire incident where they had raised $31,000 for the good cause. Recently, he was awarded as Young Indian Cultural Ambassador 2025 at Birmingham Thyagaraja Festival.

  • Guru Smt. Aarthi Narain is a Bharathanatyam Exponent, Founder & Artistic Director of Archana School of Dance, developing the next generation of passionate dancers

    She is a disciple of Nritya Kalanidhi Kalaimamani Padmashri Dr. Narthaki Nataraj and has accompanied her in conducting various dance workshops and as a Nattuvangam artist

    She has been a performing artist at various dance festivals and events internationally.

    Aarthi’s first steps in Bharatanatyam were guided by Late Mrs. Madhavi Chandrasekar in Trichy, under whom she performed her Arangetram followed by Dr. Srividya Sundaresan
